Portrait video changes the composition, not just the output size. Wide lyric lines, side-by-side layouts and large circular effects often need to be redesigned for a narrow phone screen. Use the destination's current upload guidance rather than assuming that one preset covers every platform.
Start with the intended portrait canvas
Set dimensions before placing a whole song. A 9:16 canvas is a common portrait composition, but platform requirements and overlays can change. Check the destination's current documentation for upload dimensions, duration and safe areas.
A wide image cropped into portrait may lose its subject. Choose a portrait source or position the crop deliberately. Preview the final framing rather than trusting the un-cropped source thumbnail.
Rewrite the layout for short readable phrases
Use fewer words per line and enough box height for wrapping. Do not shrink a long landscape sentence until it technically fits the portrait width. Split it into meaningful timed phrases instead.
Keep important words away from edges and from areas likely to be covered by platform controls. There is no universal safe-area guarantee; inspect a real upload preview before publishing. A title and a lyric line should not compete for the same narrow region.
- Choose the portrait canvas.
- Create a short test phrase and a long test phrase.
- Set font size at the intended viewing scale.
- Adjust wrapping and margins before styling every clip.
Use fewer simultaneous focal points
A visualizer beneath the lyric can provide rhythm without occupying the center. Circular effects may work behind a title, while bars or waves can fit a horizontal band. Reduce density and amplitude when the screen is small.
Gentle image zoom often works better than a rapidly moving background. Check contrast at the brightest frame, and keep text entrance durations short enough for fast viewing. A phone-sized composition rewards clear hierarchy more than ornamental complexity.
Review compression and platform playback
Export a supported MP4 and play it on a phone-sized view before uploading. Fine outlines, tiny dots and thin fonts may lose clarity after compression. Verify that the audio and final lyric are not cut off.
Publish only material you have permission to use. A platform's upload acceptance is not proof of music or image rights. Keep your editable project package so you can revise the layout if a destination changes its requirements.
